SELECTION PROCESS 2023

The purpose of this article is to outline a method to select members for the USA WTC 2023 Team.

Overview

Residents of the United States may play for the USA WTC team.

USA WTC TEAM CAPTAIN APPLICATIONS

Before submitting an application, a potential USA Team Captain should only submit an application if they feel that they can fulfill the obligations expected of a USA Team Captain.

All USA WTC Team Members must be able to travel to the WTC event and must have the financial capability to cover the entire cost of the event. The cost of the event is expected to be at least $3,000. Team Captain and all Team Members should be prepared to cover all expenses.

Team Members are expected to actively communicate with their fellow Team Members and with the USA WTC Committee. Team Members are expected to take the necessary steps to be well practiced and prepared to play at the WTC event. Team Members should also be prepared to travel to a team practice. Team Members are expected to exhibit high levels of sportsmanship.

Anyone who is a resident of the United States can apply to be a Captain of a USA WTC Team. Resumes will be due by April 30, 2023 9:00 PM EST and should be submitted via Google Form by clicking here or copying and pasting this URL in your browser: https://forms.gle/d2zFWW1WpRY5gVv28

The resumes may include tournament wins from events that are related to Warfaire Weekend, the Iron Gauntlet, and the WTC. Resumes will be posted on the USA WTC website. Resumes that are submitted mainly for the purpose of humor will not be posted on the USA WTC website. Events that qualify you for an event like a Warfaire Weekend event may not be listed on a resume. For example, if you won a Hardcore event to qualify for a Warfaire Weekend qualifying event, the Hardcore event could not be listed on your resume.

The tournaments that a player may list on their resume are limited to Warfaire Weekend, Iron Gauntlet, and WTC events to help the Selection Committee evaluate the tournament wins on the resume. For example, if a player listed the Idaho Cup on their resume, most of the judges would not know enough information about that event to evaluate its importance.

Resumes are limited to achievements from January 1st, 2022 to April 30, 2023, to give a fair chance for newer players to earn a spot on the team and to incentivize veteran players to continue to improve their resumes.

SELECTION PROCESS

The Selection Committee will be comprised of up to five members. The members should represent different geographic regions and be involved in running major events in the region. It is preferred that the Selection Committee should be comprised of tournament organizers. Members of the Selection Committee may not submit resumes to apply for the team.

Members of the Selection Committee will vote to select three USA WTC Captains by May 6, 2023. The Selection Committee will select the three Captains from submitted applications. The Captains will then select their Team Members. The Captains have autonomy to use any criteria when selecting their Team Members. Team Members are not limited to those who submitted applications. Team Members selected must be residents of the United States.

The winning team of the Americas Team Championship (ATC) will represent Team 1.

The winning team of the Bokur Brawl 2023 will represent Team 2.

The first Captain selected will represent Team 3.

The second Captain selected will represent Team 4.

The third captain selected will represent Team 5.

The Americas Team Championship will take place at Adepticon in Schaumburg, IL on Saturday, March 25, 2023. The highest ranking team at the America’s Team Championship that is comprised entirely of players from the United States will qualify as a USA WTC Team.  The winning team will remain intact to compete together at the WTC.  If three or more players of the winning team will not participate in WTC as members of the winning team, the next highest ranked eligible team will qualify as a USA WTC Team.

The Bokur Brawl will take place in Manville, NJ on April 28-30, 2023. The highest ranking team at the Bokur Brawl that is comprised entirely of players from the United States will qualify as a USA WTC Team.  The winning team will remain intact to compete together at the WTC.  If three or more players of the winning team will not participate in WTC as members of the winning team, the next highest ranked eligible team will qualify as a USA WTC Team.

Prepayment of 200 EUR per team is due upon selection. Team Captains and Team Members will be contacted directly within 24 hours of team selection.

TEAM CAPTAINS

Each USA WTC Team must have a Team Captain. The Team Captains will be in charge of leading the training and preparation for the team, directing communication among the team and with the USA WTC Committee, and at the WTC they will be in charge of selecting player pairings during the event.

If a player drops from a USA WTC Team after teams are formed, the Team Captain of that team may select the replacement.

A Team Captain selects who to list as the player alternate for WTC list submission.

This will be the selection process for 2023. This selection process will be reviewed to determine if any alterations are needed for 2024.
